In the light of day.
Dean woke slowly the next morning, his mind sluggish and disoriented. The first thing he noticed was that he wasn't alone. He laid on his side with another person's arms around him and a warm body pressed up against his back. It wasn't his room at the motel, either. The bed was too comfortable and the sheets smelled clean, not musty.
Without opening his eyes, Dean laid there and tried to think back over the night before. There was no hangover, so he couldn't have been drunk, but his memory was hazy anyway. He remembered checking out a club that was said to be suspicious...
Couldn't really remember going inside, although his mind kept producing hazy images of him on his knees and the smell of sex. Which, really, wasn't the worst thing in the world, but it would be nice to remember it. Some worrisome thought was niggling at the back of his mind, but he couldn't quite make it come forward.
Slowly, Dean opened his eyes and looked back over his shoulder at the man laying behind him.

Dean was starting to really enjoy this. In another life, he'd have made a hell of a bartender.

He stepped away a moment to take an order and refresh a few drinks before he came back to Nathaniel. "How's it looking tonight, boss man?"
no subject
"Looking good. You really bring'em in, I guess. Too bad I can't keep you."
no subject
Then again, he could be misreading the situation entirely. Nathaniel could just be talking about bartending. "Yeah, well, it's one of my many charms. You'd get tired of me fighting with the customers over cars sooner or later, though."

But thinking about stuff like that right now wouldn't really help their situation at all. "Right... I would have to keep an eye on you if you chase off my customers, even the soulless ones."
no subject
"You don't need soulless customers! They're bad karma." Dean grinned at him, leaning in a little to keep from being overhead. "You can still keep an eye on me, though."
no subject
"Oh, I have been. All night," he answered, tone low an teasing. "Better not slack off if you want a good evaluation. Wouldn't want to have to get rough on you."

"Got some work to handle in the back. You know what to do if you need me." Figured Dean had everything under control for right now, so he was going to go finish up some of his own work. As much as he was enjoying tonight, he kind of hoped it would pass by faster.

"Almost made it through your second night, Dean."

He looked over at Nathaniel and flashed him a grin. "Just about. What do you think, boss? Do I get my good review?"
no subject
"Maybe, but I think I might hold off. See how well you perform a couple other things for me first, you know?"

When everyone had finally filtered out besides him and Dean, Nathaniel felt a little more relaxed, didn't feel much need to be guarded on what he said or did with Dean. He looked up from where he was scrubbing up the counters and flashed a smile.
"Dean, you finished over there?"
